Prof. Yongping Li

Speech Title: An integrated bi-level model for China’s multi-regional energy system planning under uncertainty

Brief biography: Dr. Yongping Li receives her MSc and PhD Degrees from the University of Regina, Canada. Currently, she is a Changjiang Scholar Professor at Beijing Normal University, China. Her research interests involve in energy and environmental systems analysis, environmental pollution control, water resources management, and decision making under uncertainty. Dr. Li has led or involved in over 60 energy- and environment-related research projects supported by industrial, governmental and international organizations. She has produced 400 peer-refereed international journal papers (with a SCI-based H-index of 45 in Science Citation Index under Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science). She has been continuously selected as a highly cited scholar in the field of “Environmental Science” (by Elsevier) since 2013. She was recently included in Stanford University’s 2020 World Ranking for the world’s top 2 per cent of most-cited scientists in the field of Environmental Engineering. Previously, Dr. Li was received a number of awards such as Distinguished Young Scientist Award, New Century Excellent Talents in University, the National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholar in 2012, the National Award for Youth in Science and Technology, and the National Award for Youth Female Scientist.

 

Prof. Edward McBean

Speech Title: Climate Change, Extreme Events, and Insights into the Role of the Arctic Ocean

.

Brief biography: Dr. Ed McBean received his BASc from University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1968, and his PhD (Magna Cum Laude) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1973. After a post-doc at Cornell University, he was a professor at the University of Waterloo and from 1995 to 2003, and Ed then worked in industry, as Vice President of CRA (3rd largest engineering firm in Canada) and President of CRA Engineering, Inc. In 2003, McBean was awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Water Security, which he held at the University of Guelph until 2017. Subsequently, he has been University of Guelph Research Leadership Chair Professor, Water Security. Ed is an academician in Canada, being a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering and an academician in the US, being Diplomate, American Academy of Water resources Engineering and American Society of Civil Engineers. Ed has received many additional awards including the Research and Development Medal from Professional Engineers of Ontario, the K Y Lo Award from the Engineering Institute of Canada, Lifetime Achievement awards from both UBC and from Ton Duc Thang University in Viet Nam, and the Julian C. Smith Award from the Engineering Institute of Canada. Ed has published three books and more than 400 papers in engineering journals.

Speech Title: Investigating Environmental Disputes Using the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution

Brief biography: Dr. Liping Fang is Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering; Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs and Student Affairs, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (2012 to 2017 and 2018 to present); former Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (August, 2019 to January, 2020); and former Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (2004 to 2012) at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. He is Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FIEEE), and Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC) as well as a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario. His current research interests include systems engineering, environmental management, and decision making, particularly in interactive decision making, multiple-criteria decision making, and decision support systems. He has published widely, including three books, seven edited books, and numerous journal and conference papers. Professor Fang is a recipient of the 2020 Group Decision and Negotiation Section Award within the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS); 2019 ICWRER Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Conferences on Water Resources and Environment Research (ICWRER) Steering Committee; 2015 and 2012 Outstanding Contribution Awards from the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society; 2015 Best Associate Editor Award from the IEEE SMC Society; 2014 Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership from Ryerson University; 2012 ENRE Best Publication Award in Environment and Sustainability from the Section on Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment (ENRE), INFORMS; and 2008 Ryerson-Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award from Ryerson University. He has served as Associate Editor or Editorial Board Member of eight international journals, and General Chair, Co-Chair, Program Co-Chair, and Finance Chair of major international conferences.
